POSITION SUMMARY:

Focus Interpreting is seeking a dedicated English to ASL (American Sign Language) Interpreter to provide interpretation services for students in the Inland Empire. This position requires a commitment to facilitate clear communication between hearing and deaf or hard-of-hearing students in educational settings, ensuring that all students have equal access to learning opportunities year-round.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide accurate and timely interpretation of spoken English into ASL during classroom instruction, discussions, and other school-related activities.
  • Adapt interpreting style to match instructional content and the individual needs of students.
  • Maintain professionalism and confidentiality in all interactions.
  • Collaborate with educators, students, and parents to create an inclusive learning environment.
  • Stay current with ASL interpretation techniques and best practices, continuously improving skills through professional development.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Fluency in both English and ASL with excellent expressive and receptive skills.
  • Valid certification from a recognized interpreting organization (e.g., RID, NAD) is preferred.
  • Experience working with students in educational settings is highly desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Knowledge of educational policies related to students who are deaf or hard-of-hearing is a plus.
