The Assistant Global Trade Advisor for Export Controls is responsible for leading the Export Controls section of the Trade Center of Excellence (TCOE). This includes management and oversight of certain trade compliance and regulatory activities associated with classifying and exporting goods. This role leads a team of subject matter experts in the areas of classification, restricted party screening, and other trade-related compliance functions. While ensuring a strong compliance position, the role will contribute to execution of a long-term strategic roadmap for the Caterpillar trade function, grow functional capabilities, and act as an enabler for commercial growth. The successful candidate will leverage extensive expertise and knowledge of relevant import/export regulations, business practices, and processes to facilitate a successful Caterpillar trade program.

What You Will Do:

• Create and execute a strategic vision for export compliance and lead strategic projects and initiatives relating to the export controls function
• Identify optimization and efficiency opportunities related to team and enterprise trade operations
• Educate and effect change in the organization in the export compliance space
• Analyze trade activity reports and metrics pertaining to various elements of the export controls processes, and report out on trends, areas of concern and improvement opportunities
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external process partners, as appropriate, to facilitate compliant global trade
• Lead and develop a multi-national team of export compliance professionals to create a sustainable competitive advantage

What You Will Have:

• Education/Certifications: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience required
• Risk Management: Knowledge of processes, tools and techniques for assessing and controlling an organization's exposure to risks of various kinds. Ability to apply knowledge of risk management appropriately to diverse situations; strong knowledge of regulatory guidelines and their application and expertise in developing standardized compliant processes
• Analytical Thinking: Ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems; demonstrated ability to understand and digest complex scenarios to identify relevant issues and risks, propose solutions that take into consideration the relevant business objectives, and communicate those issues, risks, and solutions clearly and concisely
• Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment; ability to act quickly and decisively
• Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations
• Relationship Management: Knowledge of relationship management techniques; ability to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with clients, vendors, and peers; ability to collaborate across multiple functions and influence change
• Strategic Thinking: Knowledge of the importance of "big picture" thinking and planning; ability to apply organizational acumen and competitiveness to identify and maintain focus on key success factors for the organization
• Import/Export: Knowledge of issues, procedures, tools and practices of importing and exporting; ability to import and export goods to and from international locations; experience implementing and managing an effective Global Trade Management system
• Supply Chain Management: Knowledge of functions, principles and techniques used in supply chain management; ability to develop and use strategies, practices and tools for controlling logistical processes

Top Candidates Will Also Have:

• Typically requires 5 to 10 years related experience and 3 to 5 years of management experience
• Experience or applicable knowledge of Caterpillar business operations
• Ability to work and communicate effectively with all levels of the company including senior leadership and staff, incorporating expert knowledge and simplifying complex topics

• The primary locations for this position are Peoria, IL and Irving, TX

This position is eligible for stock or other equity grants pursuant to Caterpillar’s long-term incentive plan.

Summary Pay Range:

$169,320.00 - $253,920.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
