We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Chief Risk Officer (CRO) to lead the risk management function for an insurance business. This strategic role is responsible for designing, implementing, and sustaining a robust Operational Risk Management (ORM) framework that aligns with broader enterprise risk standards. The ideal candidate will play a key role in identifying and mitigating emerging risks, especially those related to processes, systems, and technology.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and operationalize a comprehensive risk management framework with a strong emphasis on Operational Risk Management (ORM) specific to the insurance domain.
  • Identify and maintain a live, prioritized risk register highlighting top risks impacting performance, compliance, and operations, and lead the formulation of effective risk mitigation strategies.
  • Establish and manage proactive risk monitoring systems, including early warning indicators (EWIs), automated alerts, and escalation protocols to uphold risk boundaries.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve controls around technology infrastructure and operations, ensuring security, compliance, and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with business unit heads and functional leaders to embed risk awareness and foster a culture of internal control throughout the organization.
  • Align the insurance risk management framework with enterprise-wide policies in coordination with the Group Chief Risk Officer.
  • Oversee the end-to-end risk incident lifecycle—from reporting and root cause analysis to remediation and preventive learning mechanisms.
  • Organize and lead periodic risk committee meetings, presenting actionable insights and key risk updates to senior leadership including the CEO.
  • Conduct risk assessments for new initiatives, products, processes, and market expansions to support risk-informed decision-making from the outset.

Preferred Skills & Attributes:

  • Deep understanding of operational risk principles, particularly within insurance or financial services.
  • Proven ability to develop and embed risk frameworks, controls, and monitoring systems.
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to identify and prioritize critical risks.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Experience working in cross-functional environments and aligning risk practices across business units.
