We are seeking a and experienced Data Centre Technician for a 6+ month contract position to serve as a technical liaison for a global leader in cloud technology and enterprise software. This is a critical opportunity for a professional with 2+ years of hands-on experience in a data centre environment to join a demanding, fast-paced team.

Based full-time on-site in the Melbourne CBD area, you will be responsible for troubleshooting and resolving a wide range of infrastructure issues, from server and storage support to network connectivity problems. This role requires flexibility and commitment, as it is part of a 24/7/365 shift rotation, including weekends and an on-call roster.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Linux, a solid understanding of the data centre ecosystem, and a passion for process improvement and automation. Job Description

A Data Centre Technician will be the technical liaison between the technology teams and the Data Centre Environment. You are able to troubleshoot and solve all but the most complex infrastructure issues. As a skilled troubleshooter on a wide range of Data Centre environment and systems, you understand which issues should be escalated to the appropriate resolver groups. You create and maintain documentation on technologies you support. You understand all aspects of the equipment you support. You know how to innovate and make decisions on his/her own but also know how to take direction when it is given, paying attention to all details involved. You are expected to improve current processes and introduce automation with an aim towards simplification. You are able to execute small projects on your own and work with your manager in planning and executing larger local projects.

Ideal candidates need to be familiar with the following:

  • Strong background in Linux
  • Previous experience working in a Data Centre environment (racking & stacking gear, cable management, hot & cold aisle containment).
  • Solid foundation of experience supporting servers, storage and networking technology
  • Responsible for a shift in a 24/7/365 working environment including on-call rostered basis shift
  • Solid knowledge of Data Centre Ecosystem (cooling, electrical, networking, and structured cabling)
  • Performance Management/Troubleshooting
  • Base Operating System Installation

Responsibilities / Requirements of the role:
  • Ability to understand internal customer problems and provide technical solutions in a timely manner.
  • Ability to understand customer urgency and sensitivity of a problem.
  • Ability to speak confidently and communicate clearly with internal customers.
  • Ability to work well within a demanding customer environment and delight customers.
  • Strong Adherence to Process and be a process champion.
  • Participate in the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimisation of all production server hardware, and software.
  • Provides escalated 2nd level technical support for complex technical issues which may include leading problem management cases and providing management status.
  • Manages escalated support cases and leads appropriate internal technical resources and/or 3rd party vendors to resolution.
  • Assist with server operating system and application upgrades, bug fixes, and patching
  • Perform replacements of failed components such as hard drives/ DIMMs etc.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve network connectivity issues
  • Replace AOC, QSFP, MPO, and Cat6 cables.
  • Troubleshoot basic switch issues and replace switches
  • Working on standardisation projects for both hardware and software under the Oracle technology stack; while providing consistent system uptime as expected in an IaaS environment.

24/7/365 shifts
Candidates should be available to switch shift/Schedule rotation (Day/First shift (morning to afternoon), the Evening/Second shift (afternoon to evening), and the Night/Third shift (evening to early morning). (Including weekends)
