Data Engineer:
Key Responsibilities:
- ETL Development: Design, build, and maintain efficient and scalable ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes using SSIS to integrate data from various sources into our data warehouse.
- Report Development: Create, deploy, and manage compelling reports and dashboards using SSRS to provide valuable insights to business users, enabling data-driven decision-making.
- Data Modeling & Architecture: Collaborate with data architects and business analysts to design and implement logical and physical data models that support business needs and reporting requirements.
- Performance Tuning: Optimize SSIS packages, SSRS reports, and SQL queries to ensure high performance and efficiency.
- Data Quality: Implement data quality and validation checks within ETL processes to ensure the accuracy and reliability of our data.
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including data analysts, business users, and other IT professionals, to gather requirements, troubleshoot issues, and deliver impactful solutions.
- Documentation: Maintain technical documentation for data pipelines, reporting solutions, and data processes.
- Support: Provide ongoing support and maintenance for existing data solutions, addressing production incidents and ensuring system stability.
Required Qualifications:
- Proven expertise in designing, developing, and deploying ETL solutions using Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).
- Extensive experience with Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), including report authoring, management, and security.
- Strong proficiency in writing and optimizing complex T-SQL queries, stored procedures, and functions.
- Experience with cloud data platforms in Azure
- Solid understanding of database and data warehousing concepts (e.g., OLTP & OLAP, star schemas, snowflake schemas).
- Familiarity with healthcare data standards and compliance (e.g., HIPAA).
- HIPAA and Data Security: You will be responsible for building data pipelines that are fully compliant with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other privacy regulations. This includes implementing robust security measures like data encryption (in transit and at rest), access controls, and audit trails to protect Protected Health Information (PHI).
- Claims and Member Data Processing: Design and develop SSIS packages to extract, transform, and load data from various healthcare-specific sources, including medical and pharmacy claims, member enrollment, provider data, and clinical records.
- Healthcare Data Standards: Demonstrate a strong understanding of healthcare data standards and formats, such as:
- HL7 (Health Level Seven): For exchanging clinical and administrative data.
- EDI (Electronic Data Interchange): Specifically, expertise in transactions like 834 (Enrollment/Disenrollment), 837 (Claims), and 835 (Remittance Advice).
- FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources): For building modern, scalable APIs for health data exchange.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative, agile team.

Salary and Other Compensation:
Applications will be accepted until September 21st 2025. The annual salary for this position is between $110K- 120K depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
