About Outward.
For 50 years, Outward has been providing high-quality support and care services to vulnerable people across London, predominantly in North East London. Established by families seeking alternatives to institutional care, we’ve grown into a respected provider of person-centred support for adults with learning disabilities, autism, mental health needs, and complex needs. We support over 1,000 people across nine boroughs, guided by our core values: engage, enable, and empower.
About the Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic, committed and values-driven Deputy Manager to join our Supported Living Service. You will support individuals with Profound Multiple Learning Disabilities, many of whom have moved towards independent living, to achieve greater autonomy, build confidence, and engage fully with their communities.
This is an exciting opportunity to utilise your skills to support the 2 Team managers in coaching and mentoring the staff team, and to embed high standards in the running of the service. You will be working closely with family carers, professionals and borough wide services to ensure People We Support are provided with most personalised care and support that is tailored to their high needs
You will play a key leadership role in the day-to-day running of the Service, supporting the Team Manager in supervising staff, overseeing rota planning, promoting quality and compliance, and maintaining strong partnerships with families and professionals.
Your Responsibilities
As a Deputy Manager, you will:
Requirements
We’re looking for someone with integrity, flexibility, resilience, patience, energy and a commitment to empowering people with complex needs to lead fulfilling lives. You will support the team to develop support plans and risk assessments that reflect people’s needs, preferences and aspirations; creating a culture where plans are actively implemented and reviewed so that people are supported according to their wishes.
Positive behaviour Support:
Outward supports people who are known to present behaviours of concern by using the Positive Behaviour support model because PBS puts the person first.
PBS is pro-active and the main focus is getting the environment right for the individual, rather than responses/reactions following challenging behaviour and on better supporting the person through improving their quality of life.
PBS approaches are based on a set of values of enabling inclusion, choice, participation and equality of opportunity. PBS is about working in partnership with the person, their family, staff and professionals.
Existing knowledge/experience in following the PBS approach would be beneficial but not essential as we do provide extensive training. A shared value of understanding and supporting a person’s behaviour and finding ways to work with them to improve this is essential.
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of adults at risk and expect all staff to share this commitment. This post involves working with or having access to adults at risk and/or their records so we will require an Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Services. This will be fully subsidised by Outward.
A Driver with a full UK License will be desirable – One of the Individuals we support has a Motability car and requires staff to drive him to access the local community.
