Summary:

Electric Power Division (EPD) has an opening for Design Engineer (Electrical) in the Retail Electric Power and Solutions Group located in Brazil. In this role, you will be taking ownership of 40 kW – 750 kW gensets fueled by diesel and natural gas for North Americas region. You will be providing shop support and conducting maintenance activities to solve complex technical problems, to maintain regular production to meet customer delivery dates. Expect to be hands on with the product and prepared to be mentored by multiple engineers. You will work with people across multiple organizations expanding your professional contacts and develop an understanding of the diversity of Caterpillar and its systems.

What you will do:

  • Provide engineering shop support of generator sets 40 kW – 750 kW manufactured in PSB (Power System Brazil).
  • Introduce ICAs (Interim Corrective Action) and PCAs (Permanent Corrective Action) to protect committed ship dates.
  • Support generator sets throughout the product life cycle.
  • Resolve PSB engineering quality issues and support quality initiatives.
  • Update designs of current products, components, and systems to meet customer requirements and the capabilities of process partners.
  • Work with regulatory experts to maintain certification requirements such as CSA, UL and IBC.
  • Engage operations and supply chain to optimize designs for cost, quality and assembly.

What you will have:

  • Effective Communications: Applies communication tools and techniques to clearly exchange ideas and information. Demonstrates initiative by anticipating needs, engaging proactively, and ensuring alignment through self-directed actions.

  • Technical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.

  • Design for Manufacturability: Knowledge of design for manufacturability guidelines, methodologies, and use cases; ability to use this knowledge to optimize product designs and manufacturing operations.

  • Engineering - MFG: Knowledge of processes, techniques and methods of engineering in a manufacturing environment; ability to design and implement materials, structures, machines, devices, systems and processes that safely realize a desired objective or invention.

  • Product Testing: Knowledge of product testing approaches, techniques and tools; ability to design, plan and execute testing strategies and tactics to ensure product quality at all stages of manufacturing.

  • Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing or product development environment.

Basic requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.

  • Pre-Avanced English.

Top candidates will also have:

  • Genset product knowledge.
  • Understanding of UL, CSA, NFPA, NEC ,IBC requirements.
  • Troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience using Creo and Teamcenter.
  • 3-5 year of design experience.
