Caterpillar Australia has a fantastic opportunity for a collaborative and resourceful engineer to join the Hard Rock (underground) Vehicles product group as a Design Engineer (Project Engineering) based in Burnie, Tasmania design centre conveniently co-located with our proving ground and workshops.

In this project engineering role, you will manage multiple design projects end-to-end solving customer problems and leveraging the skills and expertise of our global teams. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to network widely within the enterprise, acquire product application knowledge and develop new skills from exposure to the product value stream.

Working as part of a welcoming and close-knit team, your own diversity of skills and experience will be essential as together we solve challenging and varied problems. This position is being offered as a permanent full-time position. Travel is not a requirement of the role but could be available to meet project needs.

About the Role

  • Understand customer problem to solve, assess potential interim and permanent solutions, drive to completion the chosen design through testing and validation into the service parts network and factory.

  • Engage with product support, specialist design, supply chain and manufacturing engineering teams as the projects move through the value stream.

  • Apply engineering (quality) processes maintaining focus on performance targets.

  • Continuously learn about customer operations and performance requirements.

  • Understand Caterpillar’s business model and act in alignment with our Code of Conduct.

About you:

  • Experience solving technical problems and openness to guiding others.

  • Eager to improve quality through Continuous Product Improvement (CPI).

  • Reinforce a positive workplace culture fostering trust, resilience, clarity in communications and teamwork.

  • Interpersonal skills including negotiation and influencing.

  • Knowledge of project management.

  • Effective time management skills.

  • Ability to lead multiple projects at once.

  • Ability to work virtually with interstate and international colleagues and stakeholders.

  • ·Experience and qualifications in engineering e.g. electrical, electronic, mechanical, systems.

  • Experience with mining, machinery or quality processes would be desirable.
