Social Protection Advisor

We are seeking an experienced Social Protection Advisor to join our team, providing expert policy and programming advice in an international development context. This is a part-time contract role for an initial period of one year, with the option to extend.

The Role

You will provide strategic and specialist input to support a range of international development programs, with a focus on social protection in the Indo-Pacific region. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing high-quality technical assistance to improve the quality and effectiveness of programs, including quality assurance of concepts, designs, and strategies.

  • Delivering expert policy and strategic advice, ensuring coherence and embedding best practice based on global and in-country evidence.

  • Conducting analytical activities, such as value-for-money assessments and performance analysis of social protection systems and policies.

  • Supporting capability building within the organisation through training, mentoring, and the development of guidance materials.

This role requires a proactive and strategic mindset, with the ability to work collaboratively across different teams and with external partners.

Skills and Expertise

  • A degree in a relevant field such as Economics, International Development, or a related discipline.

  • Extensive experience and technical expertise in social protection policy and programming within an international development context.

  • A strong understanding of the geopolitics and development context of the Indo-Pacific region.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex information clearly and authoritatively to diverse audiences.

  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.

  • Experience in training or capability development is desirable.

  • The successful candidate will be required to obtain an NV1 security clearance. Location is flexible, but Canberra-based is strongly preferred.
