Job Description:

Your Work Shapes the World at Caterpillar Inc.

When you join Caterpillar, you're joining a global team who cares not just about the work we do – but also about each other. We are the makers, problem solvers, and future world builders who are creating stronger, more sustainable communities. We don't just talk about progress and innovation here – we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.

Caterpillar’s Earthmoving Division in Brooklyn Park is hiring an Electrical Integration Design Engineer! In this role, you will support the design, analysis, and testing of Vibratory Soil Compactors, with a primary focus on electrical system integration. While your main responsibility will be electrical design, you’ll also collaborate with other machine systems, including structures, powertrain, engine, hydraulics, and the operator environment. You’ll be part of a global design team with partners in Brazil, China, and India. Join us in driving leadership in cost, quality, and technology for Soil Compactors!

What You Will Do (Job Duties):

  • Work with the Soil Compactor electrical system team to deliver electrical subsystem and system designs
  • Placement of components like batteries, controllers, displays, sensors in the machine and routing harnesses to connect components
  • Establish the electrical system bill of material and manage system cost.
  • Integrate new safety and technology options. Closely follow the development of New Technology Introductions and ensure the machine is ready to accept the new designs.
  • Collaborate with all systems on the design team and cross functional business partners to ensure electrical system designs meet quality, velocity, and cost targets
  • Engage with suppliers to collaborate on designs through APQP
  • Complete drawing packages and coordinate the release of electrical system drawings
  • Participate in prototype machine builds and testing to find and fix electrical system issues prior to production

What You Have (Basic Qualifications):

  • Degree Requirement: Bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • Analytical Thinking: Bring a continuous improvement mindset to overcome challenges and develop multiple solutions to business and technical problems. Ability to identify and evaluate design tradeoffs across multiple solutions to select the optimal design. Plan, Do, Check, Adjust is how we work.
  • Effective Communications: Teamwork is central to this integration role. Working with a global team across time zones requires precise communication on design interfaces. Clear verbal and written communication is essential when multiple systems share the same space claim, requiring teams to navigate solutions that work for all stakeholders. You will be coaching team members around the world on best practices for electrical design.
  • Technical Excellence: Strong skills in component design, 3D modeling, and system integration. The electrical system interfaces with many systems on the machine. Space constraints require unique solutions to produce thoughtful designs that meet design for manufacturing requirements and challenging cost targets.
  • Product Design and Manufacturing: This role requires experience in electrical system design from initial concept through to production. You will be responsible for ensuring that your electrical designs meet both internal and external customer requirements, leveraging your skills in design for manufacturing, analysis and simulation, and cost optimization.

Top Candidates Will Have:

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously is critical to your success.
  • Knowledge of electrical components, systems, and troubleshooting
  • Training and practical experience in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
  • Hands-on experience with agricultural, automotive, or construction equipment
  • History with cost saving and part number reduction projects
