Job Summary:
Caterpillar’s Technology Division is currently seeking a Mining Technology Product Engineering Manager for the Caterpillar Command for Hauling Systems. As the engineering manager, you will be accountable for the leadership of the technical team responsible for the development of autonomous haulage systems for haul trucks. This role is directly responsible for delivering technical outcomes in support of new product development, enhancement, maintenance, support, performance and innovation. The leader in this role will be expected to establish goals for the team that deliver towards the department goals and product strategy.
This position is also responsible to provide technical support to customers. There are frequent and regular interactions with customers and end users. The engineering manager must be able to build relationships and partnerships with product support, commercial teams, strategy teams, process owners and customers to provide exceptional service. Serving the product support teams and customers well is what provides best in class value for the MineStar solution.
The incumbent must have strong technical and analytical skills, good communication and project management skills, a broad technical knowledge base, strong engineering judgement, and demonstrated team leadership skills. The incumbent must have the ability to interface with mining customers tactfully and with technical competence.
What You Will Do:
Lead the project/strategy for new CAT autonomous haulage solutions targeted for interoperability.
Direct a team to complete successful integrations, upgrades, and future progression
Own and manage the budget for the R&D development work for the portfolio of interoperable autonomous haulage solutions.
Provide visibility to stakeholders and managers on all projects
Manages and coordinates technical feasibility assessment, planning, design optimization, costs/schedule management, risk assessment/mitigation, project communication and on-going production support.
Researches and monitors industry developments, such as technology, materials and process advance; identifies potential new product opportunities and strategies.
Promotes and fosters strong partnerships with partner organizations internal to Caterpillar and with suppliers external to Caterpillar.
Provides leadership and performance management to product development engineering staff and monitors product development and production processes and activities.
Develops department goals for quality, reliability, scheduling and support; monitors projects to help product development team meet goals.
Stimulating team innovation
Communicating globally with customers, suppliers, team members, and other business units
Providing guidance and oversight for product analysis and validation.

• Leverages depth of IT knowledge to layout strategic roadmaps for deployable Mining Technology Systems.
• Ensures attention to the detail and dependencies for development of requirements for Mining Safety Systems
• Plans for allocation of resources in line with unit goals, technical and business objectives.
• Ensures the planning process is integrated with the overall business plan.
Technical Excellence:
• Advises others on the assessment and provision of all technical solutions for mining technology safety solutions.
• Engages appropriate subject matter resources to effectively resolve technical issues.
• Mentors others to enhance their technical competence and its application to achieve more effective technical solutions.
• Coaches others in development of technical solutions
Assumes Subject Matter Expert role for the mining technology solutions they are responsible for. .
• Assumes ownership for development of Cloud Computing and On-Prem server solutions for technology deployments.
Customer/Market Focus:
• Represents Caterpillar to mining technology customers as technical expert in IT Systems and Caterpillar Safety Technology.
• Implements improvements to methods for maintaining customer responsiveness.
• Delivers superior customer value consistently and within targets.
• Negotiates successful outcomes on behalf of difficult or dissatisfied customers.
• Coaches others to improve focus on the customer.
Influencing Through Expertise:
• Communicates complex ideas and concepts in a clear and concise manner so that others can understand.
• Exhibits depth and breadth of knowledge, skill, and experience Mining Technology solutions and Cloud / on-Prem Deployments. .
• Provides others with information, opportunities, or resources to develop their skills in the area of IT deployments to mining customers.
• Coaches others to enhance their proficiency regarding the tenets, practices, and examples of the 'trusted advisor' credential.
Top Candidates Will Also Have:
Bachelor’s degree in an accredited Engineering curriculum or equivalent working experience
5 years’ experience working on Command for Hauling or related Mining Technology Products
Caterpillar Product Development Experience - NPI process / leadership experience
Software and Systems Development Experience.
Additional Information
This position will be in Tucson, AZ
Domestic relocation assistance is available for this position.
This position requires up to 25% travel (approximately 1 week every month).

Summary Pay Range:
$156,000.00 - $234,000.00Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
