Job description
Do you like working with your hands and watching things come to life? Dephy, Inc. is looking for a full-time Engineering Technician to support the development and production of its next-generation robotics products. An ideal candidate would have some mechanical and electrical experience, but also a passion to learn new skills. Primary duties would include assembly, inspection, and testing of products. Secondary duties will include engineering lab maintenance, organizational work, inventory management, as well as other activities to support the workplace on an as-needed basis.
Responsibilities
- Assembly of prototypes per written or verbal specifications
- Hands-on experience soldering, wiring, crimping, and connecting electrical hardware.
- Work with the Engineering staff to assist in identifying issues, improving practices, and troubleshooting problems
- Follow test procedures and document results.
- Work with the engineering team to develop, fabricate, improve, and maintain manufacturing test and assembly fixtures.
- Follow processes to evaluate performance and validate device functionality
- Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment
- Work alongside engineers to complete root cause analysis to the assembly and part/component level.
- Ability to work in a rapidly changing environment, on multiple projects at one time
- Knowledge and capability in the safe usage of hand & power tools, including machine shop skills (mill and lathe experience desired)
- Regular direct interaction and support of the on-site engineering teams
- Troubleshoot, document, and repair units that are returned from the field
- Manage and organize shop space & assist with other duties as necessary

Part of the interview process for this role will include a hands-on skill test, including the following skills:
- Multimeter Use: Set up a Digital Multi-Meter (DMM) and measure the resistances of components.
- Mechanical Inspection: Use a micrometer and gauge pins to inspect parts while referencing engineering drawings.
- Programming firmware onto a device
- Testing a device using ModBus
- Skill with Google Sheets
- Hand soldering through-hole components onto a PCB; hand soldering a surface mount component onto a PCB to effect a repair.
Required Qualifications
- Be a good human - get along with the team, build strong working relationships, and execute on Dephy’s Values.
- Minimum 2+ years of experience assembling electromechanical products
- Ability to speak, read, and write proficiently in English
- Proficient with Google Drive, Docs, and Sheets
- Positive solutions-based mindset
- Strong communication skills with an ability to interface with internal engineering teams
- Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a timely manner under minimal supervision.
- Dependability in completing tasks that you have taken ownership of
- Ability to use a computer to enter data related to process procedures
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings

Desired Qualifications
- Basic ability using SolidWorks or other CAD software
- Basic understanding of LEAN manufacturing principles, including 5S
- Experience with electronics debugging and PCBA rework, including removal and soldering of surface-mount components.
- Electrical knowledge of motors, batteries, wiring, etc
- Associate's Degree or Technical School Certificate preferred
