JOB DESCRIPTION:
Caterpillar is currently seeking an Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Controller to lead the implementation and reporting for the SEC’s new ESG rules and work with many organizations cross-functionally.
This role is part of the Corporate Accounting Services group within the Global Finance Services Division (GFSD) and will report directly to Caterpillar’s Vice President and Chief Accounting Officer.
This ESG Controller's responsibilities will span the entire GFSD organization and also coordinate with and represent other members of the Global Finance Services Organization (GFSO), working closely with Caterpillar’s Corporate Affairs, Legal, Investor Relations, Global Compensation and Benefits and Enterprise Strategy Group, as well as Engineering, Operations, and other functional teams across the company on ESG initiatives and commitments.
JOB DUTIES:
This role is a key leader in Caterpillar’s ESG efforts. Caterpillar has a long history of social and environmental commitments. The ESG Controller is a key leader to ensure that Caterpillar meets its commitments, ensures transparency in its reporting, and develops and implements the necessary systems, processes, and controls to ensure success.
Key Responsibilities/Requirements:
- Be the single point of contact at a leadership level on all ESG matters for the GFSD and broader GFSO organization.
- Work with the Corporate Enterprise Strategy and existing Task Force Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) team to further develop Caterpillar’s reporting strategy and lead the GFSO’s efforts.
- Be responsible for ESG reporting integrity and assurance including ESG data, goals, commitments, and KPIs.
- Develop a deep expertise on ESG trends, frameworks, regulatory requirements, etc. to advise management and work with all relevant stakeholders on our operational plans, reporting strategy, and metrics.
- Work in concert with our TCFD team to conduct impact assessments and develop programmatic data-driven insights and research to inform strategic decisions and thought leadership.
- Lead the implementation of new disclosures that are expected to be required worldwide by various regulatory organizations.
- Ensure that the company maintains an effective system of internal controls, enhance our system capabilities, refine our ESG governance structure, continuing to ensure our ESG data is of the highest quality and ready for the various level of audit assurance requirements that will be required in the future.
- Work with the TCFD committee to develop and drive the agenda ensuring that all functions within the company develop and meet their respective action plans in support of Caterpillar’s overall ESG initiatives and commitments.
- Ensure that ESG-related commitments and related investments are supported by detailed analysis and action plans which are integrated into Caterpillar’s operational and financial planning processes.
- Influence and interact with senior executives and key stakeholders, assessing the need to obtain audit assurance over certain metrics.
- Represent Caterpillar in various external forums (e.g. A4S, CCR) covering ESG reporting and initiatives.
- Present to senior leadership on a regular basis on our status and progress across a broad range of internal stakeholders.

- Develop an expertise in technical ESG reporting requirements including new regulations, various frameworks, financial reporting, compliance, controls and implementing new disclosure requirements.
- Network with industry peers involved in ESG reporting and financial reporting more broadly as well as influencing regulation and standard setting

- Proven track record of managing in a matrixed environment and ability to influence cross-functional teams to impact decision-making; willingness to have a point of view backed by insight and the confidence to influence internal partners in meetings and one to one basis.
- Outstanding communication skills; ability to think analytically to understand complex or ambiguous problems or issues and communicate solutions/conclusions clearly and concisely (required).
- Able to apply specific knowledge to new situations and requests.
- Passionate about ESG reporting and have an analytical and a structured approach to data analysis and problem-solving.
- Have expertise with financial reporting systems and applications.
- Process, governance, and controls experience and skills.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Basic Qualifications:
- Requires a Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in accounting, economics, statistics, mathematics, engineering, econometrics OR a similar field with quantitative coursework.
- 15+ years of strong finance background, experience in ESG and/or financial reporting, processes, internal controls, systems.
- Strong attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
- Ability to react to changes quickly and handle pressure.
- Experience working in complex environments and driving change.
- Must demonstrate strengths in leadership, initiative, innovation, delegation, judgment, planning and organizing, and the ability to communicate effectively with multiple levels of management, as well as with team members.
Additional Details:
- This role is an in office five days a week role based out of Dallas, TX.
- Domestic relocation is offered for this role.
- This position is eligible for stock or other equity grants pursuant to Caterpillar’s long-term incentive plan.
Summary Pay Range:
$199,680.00 - $299,520.00
