ROLE DEFINITION:

We are seeking a skilled Facilities Electrical Engineer to join our R&D team focused on designing and building advanced test cells for large power systems. This role involves end-to-end responsibility for electrical system design, component selection, and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-performance testing environments.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Design test cell electrical systems ranging from 10 kW to 4 MW.
  • Perform analysis to determine motor and drive sizing.
  • Perform analysis to calculate arc flash incident energy.
  • Work with suppliers to procure electrical components.
  • Develop preventive maintenance schedules for electrical components.
  • Work with a diverse team of mechanical designers, PLC programmers, project coordinators, and facility engineers to plan and build tests in a research and development environment.

WHAT YOU WILL HAVE:

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; advanced degree preferred.

Proven experience in high-power electrical system design and analysis.

Strong understanding of motor control, drive systems, and industrial electrical components.

Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.

  • Identifies project management tools and requirements within own function.
  • Describes the key objectives, phases and deliverables of a current project.
  • Explains the concepts of phase, activity, task, and deliverable.
  • Gives examples of critical paths in projects.

Troubleshooting Technical Problems (working knowledge): Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing environment.

  • Documents common hardware, software and communications problems and likely resolutions.
  • Troubleshoots typical technical problems in a specific area.
  • Works with vendor-specific diagnostic guides, tools and utilities to discover application problems.
  • Adheres to standard troubleshooting procedures to ensure effectiveness of resolutions.
  • Participates in setting evaluation standards and criterion for troubleshooting.

Plant Facilities Management (working knowledge): Knowledge of processes, methodologies and techniques used to manage plant facilities; ability to handle the full spectrum of activities for managing and maintaining physical facilities and infrastructure.

  • Performs the installation and maintenance of such items as the plant’s electric, air conditioning, telephone and cabling infrastructure.
  • Interprets facilities-related reports and explains record-keeping requirements.
  • Works with addressing basic physical requirements of a manufacturing plant.
  • Follows access and security control procedures and equipment.
  • Assesses potential security or safety risks and notifies appropriate team members.

TOP CANDIDATES MAY ALSO HAVE:

  • Experience performing arc flash analysis with ETAP, SKM, or similar software.
  • Experience with facility power distribution design and analysis.
  • Experience working with suppliers to procure motors and drives.
  • Ability to manage your time, set, and achieve your goals.

Summary Pay Range:

$87,480.00 - $131,280.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
