We are looking for a Hardware Security Engineer to help work on unique and interesting problems on Flock hardware. This role will work on the Product security team and help the team to enforce robust security controls in Flock devices including video based license plate readers and drones.
Hardware security at Flock is deep and complex. Flock manages its own large fleet of devices including gunshot detection, license plate reader, and drone devices. Hardware security engineers at Flock help to construct defenses on all of these platforms and have the unique opportunity to work on esp32 and Android based devices helping our engineering peers to shore up security controls from supply chain, to physical hardware, and delivery to cloud.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Work with device hardware and software teams to:
Implement fixes for security vulnerabilities
Develop and implement defensive security measures
Develop, review, test, and debug Android APIs and system services
Assist with designing strategic innovations for security architecture
Participate in security projects designed to improve the security posture of the Flock device ecosystem
Help with the organization and execution of hardware specific vulnerabilities. Work to track them from start to finish line of implementation and maintain state.
The Skillset
2+ years of experience of device hardware experience
Excellent communication skills
Familiarity with source control solutions such as (git/Github/Gerrit)
Familiarity with modern software development practices and tools (DevOps)
Beginner's experience with C/C++ and Kotlin/Java, specific experience with Android Frameworks and System Java preferred
A passion for Android OS and embedded chipsets
Some Familiarity with both Android SDKs and NDKs
An understanding of security controls in the Android/Linux ecosystem
Experience with SELinux
A desire to learn and grow in hardware security engineering
Ability to conduct code and security architecture reviews
Nice to Haves
You probably hack on hardware in your free time, it's your passion
Experience working directly with hardware, specifically microcontrollers
Low level experience working with Qualcomm chipsets
Low level experience working with network protocols such as BLE and LTE
Linux internals (process scheduler, memory management, concurrency, synchronization, memory allocation, file system, networking, storage, subsystem architecture)

Salary & Equity
In this role, you’ll receive a starting salary between $87,000 and $100,000 as well as Flock Safety Stock Options. Base salary is determined by job-related experience, education/training, as well as market indicators. Your recruiter will discuss this in-depth with you during our first chat.
