About the Role
As Head of Collection at Amartha, you will lead the end-to-end strategy and execution of collections and recovery across our group lending and digital financing products. Your work will directly support our mission to empower micro-entrepreneurs, especially women in underserved areas, while ensuring portfolio quality and regulatory compliance. This role requires a strategic mindset, strong leadership, and the ability to balance recovery efforts with customer empathy and operational excellence.
What You Will Do
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and implement a comprehensive collections and recovery strategy aligned with company objectives
- Design and execute segmentation-based collection treatments based on collectability, demographic area, customer behavior, and product types
- Drive digital transformation and automation in collections and recovery processes
- Set targets and KPIs for the collections team in alignment with company objectives
Operational Excellence
- Oversee all collections operations—early-stage, mid-stage, and late-stage
- Manage and evaluate tele-collection and third-party collection agencies
- Ensure timely and accurate execution of collection activities in line with SOPs and compliance standards
- Ensure all collection activities align with company policies, industry best practices, and regulations (OJK & AFPI)
Data & Analytics
- Collaborate with risk and analytics teams to build robust credit and collections scorecards
- Monitor portfolio performance metrics including delinquency rates, roll rates, cure rates, and recovery yield
- Use data insights to continuously refine and optimize collection strategies
- Generate regular reporting dashboards and present performance to executive leadership
Team & Stakeholder Management
- Drive productivity, motivation, and training & mentoring programs to enhance collection effectiveness
- Partner with other departments such as Lending Business, Risk, Data, Fraud Control Unit, Operations, and Product & Engineering to ensure a holistic approach to debt management and improve collection process & recovery
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Law, or a related field (Master’s degree is a plus)
- 8–15 years of experience in collection or accounts receivable management, with at least 3–5 years in a managerial or leadership role
- Preferred industry experience in Financial Services, Fintech / Digital Lending, Microfinance (especially Grameen / Group Loan), or Retail Banking / Consumer Credit
- Proven track record in managing large-scale collection teams and improving recovery performance
- Strong understanding of consumer credit, risk management, and regulatory frameworks (especially for unsecured or micro-financing)
- Familiarity with collection systems and analytics tools
- Excellent leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and negotiation skills
- Able to work under pressure and in a target-driven environment
