Job Summary:

Caterpillar Virtual Product Development (VPD) Systems & Platforms team lives at the intersection of engineering and information technology. One of the team’s major responsibilities is enterprise ownership of High-Performance Compute (HPC) capability for engineering modeling and simulation. The HPC operations team has an opening for a technology specialist. This role will be responsible for leading a global team of IT professionals to deliver best in class performance and availability of on-prem and cloud supercomputing resources for the extended Caterpillar engineering and data analytics communities.

What You Will Do:

• Oversee daily operations of High-Performance Compute (HPC) cluster

• Hardware and system monitoring and maintenance

• Operation and expert support of computing, interconnects, networks, and storage

• ITSM delivery and performance monitoring

• HPC specific hardware and software R&D

• Specification of logical and technical architectures for heterogeneous computing resources

• Ensuring compliance with corporate and regulatory security and technology controls

Technical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
Technology Advising: Knowledge of effective advisory methods and ability to provide valued information and advice to clients regarding products, technologies, services and solutions for a specific technology domain.
Emerging Technologies: Knowledge of emerging technologies; ability to design, apply and evaluate new information technologies for business environments.
Hardware Infrastructure: Knowledge of computer architecture and systems programming; ability to design, build and integrate IT hardware into multi-platforms for the organization.
Requirements Analysis: Knowledge of tools, methods, and techniques of requirement analysis; ability to elicit, analyze and record required business functionality and non-functionality requirements to ensure the success of a system or software development project.
Systems Software Infrastructure: Knowledge of computer architecture and system software interaction; ability to design and build a fundamental architecture of operating systems, database management systems, communications protocols, compilers and other development tools.
Technical Troubleshooting: Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues on hardware, software, application or operation.
Technical Writing/Documentation: Knowledge of technical writing; ability to write technical documents such as manuals, reports, guidelines or documents on standards, processes and applications.

Considerations For Top Candidates:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years in compute/storage infrastructure management, with HPC specific technologies preferred.

Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of Linux/Windows operating systems, TCP/IP networking, high speed interconnect technology

Summary Pay Range:

$126,000.00 - $204,720.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
