About Bits

Bits is a Y Combinator-backed fintech startup on a mission to make credit accessible to everyone. We drive financial inclusion through our innovative credit-building service and rapidly expanding suite of credit products. With under 50 employees and £10M in ARR last year, we’re a tight-knit, high-energy team moving at high speed to fuel our growth. Based in Camden, London, we’re looking for a Legal Intern who’s ready to roll up their sleeves, take ownership, and help shape the future of fintech.

The Role

This isn’t a coffee-run internship. As our Legal Intern, you’ll operate as a trusted legal advisor, reporting directly to the CEO and taking on mission-critical legal work that powers our explosive growth. You’ll juggle a demanding workload, tight deadlines, and complex challenges in a fast-paced environment where ambiguity is the norm and excellence is non-negotiable. This role is for a brilliant, self-managing law student or recent graduate who thrives on responsibility and sees problems as opportunities to shine.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage compliance initiatives, ensuring we stay ahead of fintech regulations (e.g., FCA, GDPR, KYC/AML).

• Assist with regulatory filings, delivering precise, timely submissions under tight deadlines.

• Support product development by providing legal guidance on new credit products, from ideation to launch.

• Draft and review contracts with meticulous attention to detail.

• Conduct legal research to address emerging risks and inform strategic decisions.

• Independently prioritise and execute high-impact projects, collaborating with product, engineering, and leadership teams.

• Proactively identify and solve legal challenges in a dynamic, high-growth startup environment.

Who You Are

• A current student at or recent graduate from a Russell Group university, ideally studying law or a related field.

• Intelligent, with sharp problem-solving skills and an ability to cut through complexity.

• A proactive self-starter who takes full ownership of outcomes.

• Comfortable with a fast-paced 20-hour/week schedule, delivering high-quality results on tight timelines.

• A clear, confident communicator who can distill complex legal concepts for non-legal teammates and leadership.

• Passionate about fintech, AI and financial inclusion, with a hunger to learn and grow in a high-stakes environment.
