The Role?

The Nitrogen Membrane Operator will be responsible for the operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of nitrogen membrane units deployed during pipeline pre-commissioning activities. The role demands hands-on expertise with large-scale NGU Spreads, a strong understanding of nitrogen generation parameters, and safety-driven field execution.

Main Responsibilities & Key Result Areas

  • Operate and monitor nitrogen membrane units across pipeline precomm spreads (drying, purging, etc.)
  • Perform routine troubleshooting and corrective actions to ensure optimal membrane performance and gas quality
  • Interpret flow diagrams, system parameters, and membrane recovery rates to maintain efficiency
  • Coordinate with site supervisors, pipeline commissioning teams, and QA representatives to align operational timelines
  • Ensure accurate data logging of nitrogen purity, pressure, temperature, and flow rate using calibrated instruments
  • Conduct start-up, shutdown, and emergency response procedures as per SOPs
  • Assist with nitrogen line-up checks, manifold arrangements, and hose integrity inspections during mobilization
  • Comply with site safety protocols, including gas detection, permit systems, and lock-out/tag-out (LOTO)
  • Support pre-commissioning tasks such as pneumatic testing, leak detection, and pressure stabilization using nitrogen spreads

Requirements

  • Minimum 3–5 years of field experience operating nitrogen membrane systems
  • Proven troubleshooting experience with membrane unit performance, flow restriction, and purity fluctuations
  • Familiarity with pre-commissioning techniques: pipeline drying, Pigging ETC.
  • Basic knowledge of gas purity standards and instrumentation (e.g., analyzers, gauges, flow meters)
  • Understanding of high-pressure gas safety and handling practices
  • Technical certification or training in the above is advantageous.

Key Competencies:

  • Strong situational judgment and mechanical aptitude
  • Effective communication with multi-disciplinary teams
  • Resilience in remote or Qatar hot weather environments
  • Attention to detail and commitment to safety compliance
