At Randstad Defence, we’re proud to be partnering with Electro Optic Systems (EOS)—a leading force in the design, development, and manufacturing of advanced systems— currently seeking an Optical Engineer to join their team in Canberra.

The candidate must be an Australian citizen and be eligible for a security clearance.

About the role:

EOS Space Systems develops a wide range of opto-electronic systems with a range of electronic control and instrumentation sub-systems. The position is for an Optical Engineer within the EOS Space Systems R&D team. A successful candidate is expected to undertake optical design, assembly, alignment, testing and maintenance. Also, writing technical documentation and reporting is part of the routine.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist with the development of new optical subsystems, primarily electro-optic sensors for ground-to-space applications.
• Work alongside other engineering disciplines and communicate system requirements.
• Contribute to the instrumentation of cutting-edge opto-electronics subsystems.
• Combine novel technologies or concepts to support the innovation and development of EOS IP.
• Support the Engineering teams and communicate activity and progress to the respective discipline manager and VPs.
• Undertake and document investigative experiments to inform the company’s research activities

Qualifications and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Physics/Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience with optical design or optical instrumentation.
• Experience with the alignment and operation of complex optical systems.
• Excellent documentation and communication skills.
• Experience with Python or a programming language (Matlab, C++) is desirable.
