Role Definition

As a Design Engineer - Package Engineer - Turbomachinery you will be to lead investigations into shop and field failures of Packaging systems of turbomachinery products. This role involves diagnosing mechanical issues, electrical systems and Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI) identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions for packaging sub systems. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, hands-on experience with failure analysis, and a deep understanding of turbomachinery systems and Field exposure

This role combines hands-on diagnostics, root cause analysis, and cross-functional collaboration to resolve complex issues and drive product reliability improvements.


Responsibilities

  • The candidate should possess a minimum of 7 years of industry experience in engineering / design execution and associated applications. Experience should include significant, demonstrated results leading Mechanical systems design supporting industrial gas turbine packaging and associated gas compression and power generation process and systems engineering and design. In addition, the candidate should demonstrate knowledge of discipline-related industry standards (e.g., ASME, ASTM, ANSI, OSHA) and comprehensive familiarity with PTC applications. Experience with Solar Turbines strongly preferred.
  • As a Shop/Field Investigator, you will be Investigating Shop and Field Issues independently determines and develops approaches to solutions for design of Turbomachinery packaging systems/structures. Develops solutions to a variety of Shop/Field problems. Work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in Design Review meeting objectives.
  • Collaborate with design and software teams to implement improvements based on investigation outcomes.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical and control systems
  • Review and revise electrical schematics, HMI layouts, and control logic documentation.
  • Lead investigations into electrical and HMI-related failures in shop and field environments.
  • Provide input for design reviews, validation testing, and commissioning activities.
  • Sizing the components like filters, regulators, Heaters, Coolers and Selection of Instruments, Valves and other components based on technical specifications.
  • Perform hand calculations like pressure drop, Flow path, temperature etc
  • Responsibilities to develop P&ID for Gas Fuel, Lube Oil, Liquid Fuel, Air Supply, Start, Compressor Seal, Water wash & Turbine systems being used in Gas turbines.
  • Strong knowledge of material properties and their performance considering offshore & Onshore loading conditions.
  • Frequent contacts with Shop floor/field engineers, Suppliers, Supply chain representatives, Controls, ELS, HMI and explain information related to assigned areas of work
  • Knowledge on Gas Turbines and Packaging systems & components such as Packaging Systems – Enclosure, Frame Structures, Lube Oil System, Fuel System, Ancillary, Etc.,
  • Perform comprehensive structural analysis and hand calculations to validate the performance and safety of designs under various loading conditions
  • Good Presentation skill and demonstrate the capability through Design Review Meeting
  • Excellent in modelling techniques using 3D Tools
  • Good exposure to the use of Product Lifecycle Management tool – Windchill
  • Good Exposure on ASME/API/ISO/ANSI & DIN


Degree Requirement
A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent from an accredited college or university or equivalent relevant experience. 7+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, with a focus on turbomachinery or rotating equipment. Good communication, organizational, teaming and analytical skills are a must. Working knowledge of Creo Knowledge of gas turbine operations, and driven equipment Field experience, knowledge on Windchill, would be an added advantage.
