At Metaculus, we are building a public forecasting platform that empowers people to understand and predict complex global issues. Our goal is to create a trustworthy and engaging environment for users to share insights on vital questions impacting science, technology, and society. We’re looking for a Product Designer on a contract basis to enhance our user experience and help bring our vision to life.
Responsibilities
- You'll help improve the Metaculus web platform by designing and shipping thoughtful, user-centered features. You'll collaborate with the team to bring product specs to life through all stages of the design process, including:
- Early prototyping and ideation
- Gathering internal & external feedback
- Iterating based on feedback and preparing designs for production
- Overseeing implementation and QA
- Observing how features are used post-launch and identifying opportunities to refine them
- You'll also support other teams with a variety of design needs, such as:
- Designing concepts and visual assets for forecasting tournaments
- Help Programs and Sales teams create engaging presentations and reports
- Building out landing pages and custom user flows for tournaments and initiatives
Location
This is a remote contract position, offering flexible hours. We welcome applicants from various time zones, with a preference for candidates able to align with our existing team’s availability (GMT-8 to GMT+2).
Compensation
$40-80 USD per hour, with rates of up to $100 per hour considered for exceptional candidates.
Requirements
- 3–5+ years of experience in product or UI/UX design
- Strong command of modern design tools and workflows
- A hands-on, proactive attitude - you're comfortable owning projects end to end
- Experience with data visualization and an understanding of how to present complex information clearly
- Clear, effective communication skills (both written and spoken English)
Bonuses
- Keen interest or background in forecasting, statistics, or related fields
- Experience with frontend development, "vibe-coding," or no-code platforms to build prototypes
- Experience creating cross-platform workflows using tools like Google Sheets, Zapier, HubSpot, or similar — not just for automation, but to solve real product or operational challenges
- Comfort with fast-paced, async remote work environments
