We’re excited to offer an opportunity for a motivated Safety Officer to join our team in Maryborough, Queensland. This is an entry level position that is initially offered part-time, working three days per week to provide operational Work Health and Safety (WHS) support to the business unit in liaison with the People and Safety Team. The role is expected to grow into a fulltime opportunity and will have a heavy focus on new macadamia developments and operation, and sugar cane operations. Candidates interested in a fulltime position are encouraged to apply. Opportunities to work on our farms or possibly do administrative work for an additional two days each week is possible.

Key responsibilities:

This role reports to the Area Manager Maryborough and the Administration Manager and is responsible to:

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the Safety Management System.
  • Support operational staff and contractors to identify risks, controls and management processes.
  • Identify the training needs of workers, review competencies and deliver training.
  • Monitor safety performance and incidents, including compliance with regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Assist with drafting and updating Safe Operating Procedures and other operational safety processes.
  • Assist with contractor engagement and management process, including completion of authority to commence work (ATCW) documentation for contractors, review of contractor safety documents and insurances, and entering and updating documentation in the safety management system.
  • Ensure all contractor onboarding and certifications are current.
  • Assist with implementing corrective actions and audit findings.
  • Liaise with People and Safety and participate in incident investigation and incident reporting.
  • Assist with return-to-work activities for injured/ill employees.
  • Report any unsafe act or condition and implement steps within control to remedy.
  • Maintenance of safety registers, induction of contractors and visitors, training and induction of employees.
  • Maintain safety records for the business unit within the safety platform (Safe Ag).
  • Manage PPE supplies and requirements.
  • Participate in Toolbox meetings.
  • Assist the Administration Officer with general administrative tasks, including ordering office supplies, maintaining stock levels, preparing documents, entering data, maintaining records, and supporting internal communications on an ad hoc basis.
  • Support the Operations Team by gathering, organising and maintaining safety information for reports, ensuring the accuracy and timely completion of required documentation.

Requirements

The following criteria is essential to be successful for the position:

  • Completion of, or progression towards a Certificate IV Workplace Health and Safety or relevant tertiary qualifications.
  • QLD Return to Work Coordinator Certificate preferred.
  • Working knowledge of WHS requirements and processes.
  • Working knowledge and experience with farming and machinery operations.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and strong computer literacy.
  • Methodical, logical and practical working approach.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and able to communicate with others effectively.
  • Strong time management and organisational skills with good attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to work autonomously.
