Job Summary:

Caterpillar is seeking an experienced compliance lawyer to join its Global Compliance Legal Team, which is part of Caterpillar’s global in-house legal division. The successful candidate will have the exciting opportunity to lead legal support on a broad range of compliance matters in Mexico. They will also partner with other compliance attorneys to provide support in connection with other parts of Latin America. The role offers a unique opportunity to become a trusted adviser and compliance leader to all of Caterpillar’s businesses that operate in the region.

The successful candidate will be expected to be a compliance thought leader who partners with business teams, legal professionals and other stakeholders to deliver proactive and innovative legal support. A proven track record of working with limited supervision on complex Mexico compliance matters, and providing practical and commercially focused advice, is essential.

The successful candidate will be part of a small global team and will report to a manager located outside the Americas.

What You Will Do:

  • Monitor the external regulatory environment across Mexico and other parts of Latin America and proactively advise on the impact of regulatory developments.
  • Provide day-to-day legal advice on compliance matters.
  • Advise on interactions with government authorities.
  • Support Caterpillar’s global compliance program initiatives. For example, by delivering compliance training and supporting the development of new policies, processes, procedures and programs.
  • Manage relationships with, and work of, external counsel.
  • Manage travel and external counsel budgets.

What You Have:

  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
  • Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
  • Managing Multiple Priorities: Knowledge of effective self-management practices; ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities, making effective judgments as to prioritizing and time allocation.
  • Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.

Educational Requirements:

  • Qualified lawyer with unrestricted right to practice law in-house in Mexico.
  • Expert of legal advisory experience
  • Demonstrated expertise advising on compliance matters in Mexico.
  • Demonstrated expertise advising on trade compliance matters.
  • Advanced English.

Additional Info:

  • Location: Santa Catarina, Nuevo Leon.

  • This position is five-day a week in-office model.

  • This position will require travelling 10% working time (Domestic and International).

  • Valid Travel Visa and Passport
