Role Definition
We have an opening for a Senior Design Engineer is in the Caterpillar Trimble Control Technologies (CTCT) joint venture. The successful candidate will be designing, releasing, validating, and documenting installation parts and kits to support grade control on construction equipment. The candidate will work closely with marketing, engineering, program management, manufacturing teams, and suppliers to release high quality products for the earthmoving and paving industries. Travel (including international) is less than 20%.


Responsibilities

  • Transform concepts into 3D part models and assemblies
  • Select suppliers
  • Validate designs in the intended application through analysis and testing
  • Create assembly instructions
  • Provide engineering support for supplier transitions, dual sourcing and cost reduction initiatives
  • Perform FEAs, vibration & bolted joint analyses
  • Balance priorities
  • Facilitate root cause analysis for quality issues on production parts

What you will have:

  • Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
  • Managing Multiple Priorities: Knowledge of effective self-management practices; ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities, making effective judgments as to prioritizing and time allocation.
  • Product Design and Development: Knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production.
  • Product Design: Knowledge of processes, approaches, tools and techniques of product design; ability to convert customer and market requirements into product design.

Top Candidates will have:

  • 4 year bachelor’s degree in an applied Mechanical/Electrical/Ag Engineering
  • Ability to work on & around construction machinery
  • Adaptable to the evolving technology environment
  • Basic shop skills and metal fabrication skills
  • Experience with Engineering design
  • Familiar with ProE/Creo
  • Experience with FEA and vibration analysis
  • Experience in manufacturing and distribution
  • Experience with purchasing and procurement

Additional Details:

  • This position requires the candidate to work full-time at the Dayton, OH office.
  • Relocation assistance is NOT available for this position

Summary Pay Range:

$110,520.00 - $165,840.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
