Senior Health Economy Lead

We are looking for a Senior Health Economy Lead for the Health Systems and Economics Team, Global & Public Health Department, in the Health Area at the Novo Nordisk Foundation.  

The Health Area is led by Chief Scientific Officer, Professor Flemming Konradsen. It consists of 60 colleagues who are passionate about advancing and improving equity in prevention and management of cardiometabolic diseases and infectious diseases in Denmark, the Nordics, EU as well as low-and middle-income countries and humanitarian settings.  

The Department of Global & Public Health comprises three teams. All three teams are dedicated to making a positive and tangible impact towards a healthier future for all. 

The newly established Health Systems and Economics Team, to be led by the Senior Health Economy Lead, focuses on capacity building in health economics and health systems analysis and development, addressing current challenges and solutions in health care including more effective use of data and new technologies. The team will work closely with external partners to contribute to reforms of health care systems in Denmark, the Nordics and EU. 

The team works closely with colleagues in the Health Promotion, Prevention and Equity Team, which focuses on child health and nutrition, youth mental health and the health of people in vulnerable positions with multiple chronic diseases in Denmark and the Nordics.  

The Global Health team is committed to developing the NNF global health portfolio with partners in low- and middle-income countries with a focus on education of health professionals, prevention and management of cardiometabolic diseases, and nutrition.  

The job 
As Senior Health Economy Lead a key task will be to lead and develop the newly established Health Systems and Economics Team currently including 3-4 team members. This includes developing the portfolio and the team as part of the Global and Public Health Department and Health Area of the Novo Nordisk Foundation.  

Other key tasks to be carried out in close collaboration with the team include:   

  • Contribute towards the design of and manage initiatives aimed at building capacity for health economics and health systems analysis and development with external partners in Denmark, the Nordics and EU.
  • Facilitation and quality assurance of health economics and systems research components of programs in close collaboration with grantees and external stakeholders.   
  • Act as focal point for health economic analysis across the Health Area with a focus on health economic analysis related to initiatives and RCTs introducing new technologies and optimizing the use of health data and statistics.
  • Identify and mobilize external expertise in health economics and health system analysis.
  • Facilitate and commission health economic analyses for health system development and policy advocacy purposes. 
  • Collaborate and coordinate closely with NNF Impact Management on impact analysis from a health economics perspective.
  • Compile methodologies, experiences and evidence across NNF supported projects. 

 

Professional and personal qualifications 
We are looking for an experienced Health Economy Lead who is highly motivated to lead a small team and develop the area of health economy and health systems analysis in the foundation.  

You have +12 years of experience in applied health economics and evaluation from government, philanthropy, academia or other relevant organization in Denmark, the Nordics or EU including a PhD or master’s degree in health economics or related field.  

You are technically highly capable within the field of health economics and health systems analysis and how it can best be applied to strengthen health systems and service delivery as well as feeding into planning, advocacy and policy making. 

 We imagine you:  

  • Possess strong technical skills in health economics and its application to strengthen health systems and service delivery. 
  • Have a deep understanding of health systems and their challenges, particularly in Denmark and the Nordics. 
  • Have extensive experience in project design, management and evaluation. 
  • Have experience as team leader.
