About the job

Wear/WatchSW powers millions of smartwatch devices from partners including Pixel, Samsung, Oppo, Xiaomi, Mobvoi, and others. The wearables market is growing quickly and has excellent potential for health and fitness, AI, and similar use cases. The Wear SysUI team owns many of the core UI experiences on watches, including notifications, app grid, tutorial, charging screen, settings, tiles, and quick settings. We drive the fundamental technical and visual direction of the watch, including investigation and the option of new technologies such as Compose. We handle not only the UI but underlying business logic, power and performance optimization, APIs, and app integration. The Wear SysUI Big Picture team's goal is to raise the quality of the core user experience by investing in long-term architectural health and developer efficiency. We identify and work on the most impactful pain points not only for SysUI but for the broader WatchSW organization. Areas of investment include AI-powered developer tools, modernization and large-scale migration of code to the latest platforms and technologies, scaling our release and automation, and making components self-service to app teams.

The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as our first party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams across this area research, design, and develop new technologies to make our user's interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences for our users around the world.
