Job Scope:

The person will be a team member within the Design - Buckets & Hydro-Mechanical Work Tools of HEX (Hydraulic Excavator / Wheel Loaders) With responsibility for design, development of Fabricated & Hydro Mechanical Systems, Linkages and Wear components to meet our internal process partner and the customer needs. Design and developing concepts to address Global CPI issues, to support new product development needs and support cost reduction goals in line with Caterpillar product development processes.

Job duty and Responsibilities

  • Primary Job responsibility is to provide system design solutions for NPI, CPI, Cost Reduction of Buckets, Couplers, Hydraulic Hammers & Demolition Work Tools.
  • Accountable for Custom Design of above-mentioned products; hence Conceives, Designs & evaluates Structural rigidity.
  • Helps lead engineers to generate reports like Feasibility checks and virtual validation to extend the portfolio for the next ranges. And this will also create Aftermarket Sales opportunities for Caterpillar.
  • Make calculations, design decisions and necessary analysis and computer simulations.
  • Requires adequate knowledge on general engineering practices & GD&T, manufacturing processes like welding, machining, surface finishing, heat treatment etc.
  • Must be able to effectively program manage their tasks and managing to deadlines.
  • He / She can be either as an individual contributor to perform the design, with excellence on analyzing, identifying and applying engineering techniques to solve problems and make recommendations.

An Ideal Candidate will have

Requires an accredited engineering degree or equivalent experience and Incumbents have usually gained 2 to 5 years’ experience and have exhibited ability to work on moderately complex assignments.

Good product knowledge on Heavy Machine Construction / Mining equipment’s. Demonstrates fair understanding of Fabricated structures & Hydraulics. Understanding of Soil – Metal interaction & Wear Mechanisms would be absolute delight.

Demonstrates self-starter attitude & must have ability to communicate technical information effectively with team members and others in the work group, as well employees in other units, customers and suppliers.

Technical & Software Skills

  • Advanced CAD Modeling, Assembly, Structural analysis - Pro/E – CREO, Creo Simulate / Ansys / FE Safe & Astrolab
  • For Linkage simulation – C-Link / Creo Sketcher
  • Dynasty / TOMSIM / Rocks3D exposure would be absolute delight.

• Documents each stage of the design process for audit and review purposes.
• Follows standard guidelines and best practices while carrying out DFM procedures.
• Implements DFM methodologies to standardize product designs, simplify operations, and reduce costs for certain types of manufacturing processes.
• Utilizes basic DFM tools and technologies to implement DFM methodologies.

Engineering - MFG: Knowledge of processes, techniques and methods of engineering in a manufacturing environment; ability to design and implement materials, structures, machines, devices, systems and processes that safely realize a desired objective or invention.
Level Working Knowledge:
• Assists in problem resolution, drafting and writing specifications for engineering practices.
• Works with basic, routine components of the engineering discipline in manufacturing.
• Performs basic installation, maintenance and repairs for a specific engineering function.
• Follows relevant standards, policies and practices in engineering operations.
• Reports unusual engineering issues and considerations regarding manufacturing operations to senior staff.
