Job Description

What We Are Looking For

Sr. Director, Equipment Software & Controls within the Multiport Process Engineering team. This is an exciting senior leadership opportunity to define and implement Intuitive’s strategic vision for factory automation and factory intelligence across our manufacturing sites globally.  In addition to being a proven people leader, success in this role will require strong business, software architecture, software and motion control, product development and medical device expertise, as well as technical leadership within equipment software, industrial equipment controls, electrical (i.e. mechatronics) engineering disciplines.  Critical to the success of this role is proactive partnership with other senior New Product Development and Manufacturing Operations staff to scale operations for product quality, cost, reliability, safety and delivery objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Multiport Equipment Software and Controls Engineering team to design, build, validate and scale electro-mechanical production equipment, automated test equipment, tooling, and fixtures. In this role you will manage a team of Software, Controls, Electrical Engineers and Data Analysts including hiring, training, mentorship, talent development, performance management and team culture. 
  • Provide technical direction and problem resolution during product development, deployment (Design for Automated Assembly / Manufacturability / Service / Test)   and long-term sustaining of manufacturing and automation systems in a 24x7 production environment.
  • Architect Software framework for equipment designs tied to product development cycles and oversee implementation of automation systems, using a blend of custom software and traditional industrial controls.
  • Effectively manage Software Development for internal equipment projects, from concept definition and business case, through final qualification and facility transfers.  Activities include performance specifications, factory acceptance testing, Qualification/ Computer Systems Validation (CSV) within Intuitive’s overall Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Support equipment engineering personnel and manufacturing sites globally.
  • Enable Process Engineering teams with tools allowing data acquisition (SCADA), data management and data analytics.  Effectively leverage manufacturing data and factory intelligence to improve product design and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

Key Position Requirements

  • Bachelors or Masters in Engineering Computer Science, Controls, Machine Vision or Electrical Engineering required (Ph.D is a plus).
  • Requires 12+ years of progressive people and software development leadership experience within a complex system or product organization.  Medical Device experience is a plus.
  • Requires strong hands-on experience (5+ years) controlling physical processes using both traditional industrial automation (PLC, DCS) systems as well as embedded systems (e.g. real time industrial PCs or DSPs) .
  • Deep expertise in
    • SW Languages – C#, Python, Java
    • Motion Control , PLC, Machine Vision, Sensor Integration
    • Data Engineering and Data Analytics
    • IT, Cyber Security and Networking
    • Equipment Safety Standards
  • Fluent in core concepts and modern methodologies that govern SDLC.
  • Experience in managing large distributed teams is a plus.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation and management skills.
  • Experience with SAP (ERP), Agile (PLM), Polarion (ALM) is a plus.
  • Requires 20% travel including International Travel to our sites in MX, Germany and Asia.

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, benefits, and equity. It would not be typical for someone to be hired at the top end of range for the role, as actual pay will be determined based on several factors, including experience, skills, and qualifications. The target compensation ranges are listed.

Base Salary Range Region 1:$272,000 - $408,000
Base Salary Range Region 2: $231,200 - $346,800
