Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 8 years of experience with data structures/algorithms.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional, or cross-business projects.
  • Experience with one or more of the following languages: Go, Java, Python, Node.js, Rust, PHP, C#, C++ or Ruby.

The Cloud Software Development Kit (SDK) team builds and maintains the developer-facing tools for Google Cloud, including the gcloud Command Line Interface (CLI) and open-source client libraries for numerous languages like Java, Python, and Go. We manage the entire life-cycle, from auto-generating libraries for over 150 APIs to creating customized solutions and improving the overall developer experience. We focus on adding new features, resolving technical debt, and collaborating with product teams. This role will specifically focus on building cross-cutting capabilities such as regional endpoint support, interface-based versioning, and telemetry for enterprise customers.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $197,000-$291,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Work with the Cloud SDK team and the Cloud product team to design/implement new features to support external developers and product roadmaps. Primary focus languages are Java, Python, Go, and Node.js. 
  • Identify and resolve technical debt, including opportunities around API modernization. 
  • Debug and resolve customer issues in the client libraries, and maintain high quality of released binaries.
  • Develop product expertise across various data analytics products over time. 
  • Work with horizontal virtual language teams within Cloud SDK to ensure uniformity and consistency of client libraries across multiple products.
