Role Definition
As part of the Steel Components Mexico team, the Supplier Development Engineer will focus on Machined SBQ, Rods and Tubes, ensuring supplier quality and compliance with manufacturing and legal standards. The role supports business localization in Mexico and drives supplier performance improvement to enhance operational excellence and competitiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the quality of MSBQ, Rods and Tubes supplies through inspections, testing, and evaluation mechanisms.
  • Monitor supplier defect rates and generate quality reports; guide suppliers in reducing defects and improving consistency.
  • Research and assess potential suppliers, including audits of their manufacturing practices to ensure compliance with internal and regulatory standards.
  • Support suppliers in performance improvement through process optimization, control implementation, and quality assurance planning.
  • Collaborate with customers to develop new sources and support the introduction of new products aligned with business localization strategies.

Degree Requirement

A Mechanical Engineering Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering or related degree is required.

Advanced proficiency in English is required, including strong reading, writing, and verbal communication skills.

  • Confronts root causes of problems wherever they exist.
  • Eliminates unnecessary work and all non value-added activities.
  • Uses objective quality criteria and data to drive decisions.
  • Documents learnings regarding quality outcomes so that the data can be used for improvement.
  • Surfaces quality problems whose root causes fall outside the group's responsibility.

Production Part Approval Process (PPAP):

  • Assists in documenting common issues and challenges related to PPAP.
  • Follows internal best practices, guidelines, and procedures while implementing PPAP.
  • Implements standard processes to get the required approvals for a new part/product and ensure that it meets the quality standards and customer expectations.
  • Researches on ways to apply PPAP across different industries.
  • Works to complete all the PPAP elements required for final production design.

Supplier Evaluations and Certification:

  • Documents and pursues results of reference calls or other sources for a specific supplier.
  • Participates in selecting and certifying a specific supplier and/or product.
  • Assists with the steps and procedures for supplier certification.
  • Researches several types of sources of information for a supplier's or a product's reputation.
  • Assesses a product or service using pre-defined evaluation criteria.

Additional Information

On-site work based in Santa Catarina, Nuevo León.

Travel Requirement: Availability to travel up to 30% of the time. International and domestic travel.
