Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ) — a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York — seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission-aligned Table Tennis Coach. 

The Table Tennis Coach will bring a passion for the mission of Harlem Children’s Zone: break the cycle of intergenerational poverty with comprehensive, on-the-ground programming that builds up opportunities for children and families to thrive in school, work, and life. 

We are seeking an Table Tennis Coach to guide our elementary school, middle school and high school students through interscholastic athletic programs, activities, and events of table tennis. The Table Tennis Coach will be responsible for creating and improving the table tennis program and developing and administering effective training and developing athletes in the sport of table tennis, keep student-athletes engaged athletically and promote positive academic and personal growth.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Proven experience in coaching table tennis with youth 
  • In-depth knowledge of table tennis rules and strategies 
  • Strong communication and motivational skills 
  • Relevant coaching certifications 

This role requires a combination of technical expertise, interpersonal skills, and a passion for helping athletes achieve their best. 

Who you are 

The Table Tennis Coach, under the general supervision of a licensed physician and the Director of Athletics, will be responsible for training and developing athletes in the sport of table tennis. This role involves planning and conducting training sessions, teaching techniques and strategies, and monitoring athletes' progress academically and athletically. The coach provides personalized training programs, motivates players, and organizes competitions. Ensuring a safe training environment and maintaining equipment are also key aspects of the job. 

What you’ll do 

  • Conduct Training Sessions: Plan and organize training sessions for athletes at different skill levels for competition. 
  • Develop Personalized Training Plans: Tailor training programs to meet individual athletes' needs and goals. 
  • Teach Techniques and Strategies: Instruct players on fundamental skills, advanced techniques, and game strategies. 
  • Monitor Progress: Assess athletes' performance and provide constructive feedback. 
  • Motivate Athletes: Inspire and encourage athletes to reach their full potential. 
  • Organize Competitions: Oversee table tennis tournaments and practice matches. 
  • Ensure Safety: Maintain a safe training environment and manage equipment.  

Schedule 

    • Fall/Spring:
      • Monday-Thursday
        • 2 PM- 7:30 PM
      • Friday
        • 2 PM-7 PM
    • Summer:
      • Monday-Thursday
        • 11 AM-4:30 PM
      • Friday
        • 11 AM-4:30 PM

*Saturdays if needed.

Attend scheduled games, practices, or tournaments (some weekends required)
