Tech Lead - Java, AWS, Kafka & Kubernetes

Cognizant is seeking a highly experienced Tech Lead with specialization in Java, AWS, Kafka and Kubernetes to join our Melbourne team. This is a strategic, hands-on leadership role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys solving complex problems, and is passionate about mentoring others while driving technical excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of Java-based microservices, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and performance.
• Architect and implement RESTful APIs, applying best practices in versioning, documentation, and security.
• Deploy and manage containerized applications using Kubernetes, including Helm, service meshes, and cluster operations.
• Design and optimize event-driven systems using Kafka, ensuring high throughput and reliability.
• Manage CI/CD pipelines in GitLab, automating build, test, and deployment workflows.
• Build and maintain cloud infrastructure on AWS, leveraging services like EC2, EKS, Lambda, S3, IAM, and CloudWatch.
• Implement observability and performance monitoring using New Relic, proactively identifying and resolving issues.
• Utilize Splunk for log aggregation and analysis, creating dashboards and supporting incident response.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders, translating technical concepts into business value.
• Mentor and support team members, fostering a culture of learning and technical excellence.
• Contribute to test strategy and integration testing, ensuring robust and reliable deployments.
• Ensure API security best practices, including authentication, authorization, and threat mitigation.
• Drive observability and monitoring practices, ensuring system reliability and performance

To Be Successful in This Role, Your Skills and Experience Should Include

• Strong experience in Java microservices architecture, including Spring Boot, service orchestration, and inter-service communication.
• Extensive experience with RESTful API design and strategy, including performance tuning and secure design.
• Hands-on expertise with Kubernetes, including deployment, scaling, and troubleshooting.
• Deep understanding of Kafka architecture, including producers, consumers, partitions, and stream processing.
• Proficiency in GitLab, especially in managing CI/CD pipelines and DevOps automation.
• Solid AWS knowledge, with practical experience in deploying and managing cloud-native applications.
• Experience with New Relic, including telemetry analysis, alerting, and performance optimization.
• Advanced skills in Splunk, including log parsing, dashboard creation, and integration with monitoring workflows.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders across technical and business domains.
• Proven leadership and mentoring capabilities, with a track record of guiding teams and improving delivery.
• Working knowledge of integration testing and deployment processes, including rollback and release strategies.
• Strong understanding of API security, including OAuth, JWT, rate limiting, and secure coding practices.
• Familiarity with observability principles, including metrics, logs, traces, and incident response
