Job Description:

Your Work Shapes the World at Caterpillar Inc.

When you join Caterpillar, you're joining a global team who cares not just about the work we do – but also about each other. We are the makers, problem solvers, and future world builders who are creating stronger, more sustainable communities. We don't just talk about progress and innovation here – we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.

Job Summary:

Robotic welding programming requires a combination of technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and communication. Key areas include understanding welding techniques and robotic systems, troubleshooting, attention to detail, and effective communication with team members. Additionally, familiarity with robot programming languages, sensors, and PLCs is crucial.

What You Will Do

• Robot weld Program different part numbers according to facility needs.

• Examining and resolving defects in work pieces using various technologies, tools and equipment.

• Adhering to quality assurance policies and procedures to ensure that work pieces are fabricated according to instructions.

• Designing and/or maintaining a manufacturing process to weld metal parts together in required configurations.

• Utilizing expertise of various manual or automatic welding systems to safely and accurately fabricate a quality metal structure.

Degree Requirement:

Engineer or bachelor’s degree related to the field.

Basic-Intermediate English-speaking level.

What skills the ideal candidate will have

Decision Making and Critical Thinking:

  • Precision is paramount in welding. Programmers need to ensure that welds are executed accurately and consistently, paying close attention to torch angles, weld paths, and robot movements.
  • The ability to analyze data, such as weld quality and robot performance, is essential for optimizing welding processes. Programmers need to identify areas for improvement and implement changes to enhance efficiency and weld quality.

Judgment and Decision Making:

  • Effective communication with other team members, such as welders, technicians, and supervisors, is crucial for seamless operation. This includes clearly communicating programming instructions, troubleshooting steps, and any potential issues.

Manufacturing Equipment:

  • Robotic welders must be able to diagnose and resolve issues that arise during programming or operation. This includes understanding how to optimize robot paths, adjust welding parameters, and troubleshoot errors.

Manufacturing Processes:

  • A strong understanding of welding processes (TIG, MIG, arc welding) and how robots are used in these applications is fundamental. This includes knowledge of robot control systems, dynamics, and programming languages
  • Familiarity with specific robot programming languages (e.g., FANUC, ABB, Yaskawa) is often required.
  • Understanding how robots move between programmed points (joint, linear, circular interpolation).

Manufacturing Safety:

  • Robotic welding involves working with heavy machinery and potentially hazardous materials. Programmers must be aware of safety protocols and ensure that all welding procedures are conducted safely.

Manufacturing Standards, Procedures and Policies:

  • Using a teach pendant to manually guide the robot through its movements and record welding paths.
  • Developing, modifying, and executing arc welding programs, including using program branching instructions and subroutines.
  • Configuring robot payloads, tool and user frames, weld procedures, and other parameters.

Problem Management Process:

  • Identifying and resolving errors in welding programs, including issues with robot movements, weld quality, or safety.

Top candidates will have

  • Programming certification or certified course.
  • CWE certification.

Additional Information:

  • The location for this position is Santa Catarina.
  • Work schedule will be rotational for approximately 1 year: Monday – Saturday (6:24am - 2:30pm), (2:30pm-10:00pm) and (10:00pm-6:24am) Then it will go back to regular Monday - Friday (6:24am-4pm) and Saturday (7:00am-2:30pm).
