This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of UFG Insurance. We are currently looking for a Claims Specialist I - Construction Defect in the United States.
This role focuses on the thorough investigation, evaluation, and resolution of construction defect claims, including both litigated and non-litigated cases. The Claims Specialist will analyze policies, endorsements, and documentation to determine coverage, assess damages, and set appropriate reserves. Working closely with legal counsel, insureds, and internal teams, this position ensures accurate claims handling and reporting, while navigating complex liability and coverage issues. Accountabilities:
- Conduct initial and ongoing case reviews to evaluate coverage based on allegations and policy language.
- Identify and communicate coverage decisions through written notifications to insureds and agencies.
- Pursue risk transfer opportunities such as contractual defense and additional insured claims.
- Coordinate co-carrier contributions, subcontractor participation, and subrogation efforts as appropriate.
- Investigate liability by applying relevant legal doctrines and defenses.
- Evaluate exposure, allocate liability shares, and assess damages accurately.
- Establish and update reserves in line with company standards.
- Develop and implement settlement and negotiation plans considering case strengths and risks.
- Maintain communication with insureds, agencies, and underwriting regarding significant case developments.
- Drive case resolution with strategic plans, collaborating dynamically with defense counsel on litigated matters.
- Lead settlement discussions, mediations, and expert retention aligned with case objectives.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- AIC designation or similar claims certification preferred.
- Must meet state licensing requirements for handling multi-line claims.
- Minimum 5 years’ casualty claims experience, including at least 2 years handling direct construction defect claims.
- Litigation experience in subcontractor construction defect claims required.
- Strong ability to interpret policy language, endorsements, and contracts related to coverage and allocation.
- Knowledge of construction trades, building repair, and relevant legal frameworks.
- Excellent negotiation, analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficient in documenting claims using technology and maintaining effective communication with stakeholders.
- Ability to travel occasionally for mediations, hearings, and site inspections as needed.
