    • Ready to join a stable engineering company whose clients include Metro Trains and V/Line, offering you long-term security and a career that directly impacts public transport safety?

If you answered YES to these questions, keep reading. Our client, a specialist engineering company and a key partner in keeping Victoria's essential rail networks moving, is looking for a dedicated Diesel Mechanic/Fitter to join their team on a full-time, permanent basis.

    What You'll Be Doing:

Your primary responsibility will be working on fascinating projects—like converting Land Cruisers into rail-ready vehicles—but you'll also have a handle on the full spectrum of a diesel mechanic's duties. This role is hands-on and requires a good degree of physical fitness, including bending down for detailed work.

    • Retrofitting & Fabrication: This is the heart of the role. You'll be modifying heavy vehicles and machinery, installing specialized kits that enable them to operate on both roads and rail tracks.
    • Maintenance & Repair: You will perform reactive maintenance and repairs on the specialised kits as and when required.
    • Diagnostics & Troubleshooting: Use your technical expertise and advanced diagnostic tools to identify and resolve mechanical and hydraulic issues. Experience with hydraulics and mechanics is essential.
    • Electrical Work: While not a requirement, a solid understanding of vehicle electrics would be a significant advantage.
    • Team Collaboration: You'll work closely with a small team of highly skilled professionals who are passionate about their work and will support you in your professional development.

    What You'll Get in Return:

    • Full-time, Permanent Job from Day One: paying $48-52/hr + super.
    • Long-Term Security: Our client is a stable business with a strong reputation, offering you a secure, long-term position.
    • Interesting Work: You'll be working on unique, specialized projects that go beyond standard mechanical repairs, allowing you to develop new skills and expertise.
    • Opportunity to get into the rail industry: Get your foot in the door with an ever evolving industry that is key to Victoria’s long-term growth - with massive infrastructure projects coming up like the suburban rail loop, this is a great time to get rail industry experience!
    • Full Training: Full training is provided on the job for the successful candidate.
    • Balanced Workload: Enjoy a relaxed, day-to-day environment with a manageable workload. There's generally no more than an hour or two of overtime a day and no weekend work, giving you a great work-life balance.
    • Supportive Team: Join a small, supportive team where you'll be valued and can learn directly from experienced colleagues.

    The Ideal Candidate:

Our client is looking for an experienced heavy vehicle mechanic, Diesel Fitter or Mechanical Fitter with a background in trucks, buses, or earthmoving equipment. You should be looking for a long-term position and a change of pace. They offer a relaxed, day-to-day environment with a manageable workload, so you won't be bogged down with excessive overtime (typically no more than an hour a day, and no weekends). They do have busy periods, so the ability to adapt and manage peaks and troughs is important.

Please note: This role is not suitable for a light vehicle mechanic.
