This role offers a critical opportunity to lead the financial operations of a mission-driven organization focused on creating pathways to family-sustaining careers for low-wage workers. The Financial Controller will oversee accounting functions, ensure compliance with GAAP, manage financial reporting and audits, and implement strong internal controls. Working closely with leadership and cross-functional teams, this role contributes to the organization’s financial integrity and operational excellence in a remote and flexible environment.
Accountabilities:
- Lead month-end and year-end close processes, delivering accurate and timely financial statements in compliance with GAAP.
- Manage the annual external audit and coordinate all tax, compliance, and grant reporting requirements.
- Oversee accounting operations including cash management, accounts payable/receivable, and payroll review.
- Establish and enforce accounting policies, driving scalable process improvements.
- Design and maintain a robust internal control framework and lead risk mitigation efforts.
- Manage and mentor a small accounting team, fostering a supportive and mission-driven culture.
- Collaborate with leadership to support financial planning, compliance, and operational goals.
Requirements
- Significant experience leading accounting teams, with deep expertise in nonprofit accounting, GAAP, and fund accounting.
- Proven success in managing month-end close, audits, and compliance filings including Form 990.
- Experience working in high-growth or startup environments, with hands-on ERP/accounting system expertise (NetSuite preferred).
- Strong skills in translating complex financial data for diverse stakeholders, including executives and auditors.
- Commitment to the organization’s mission, values, and culture of inclusivity and continuous learning.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership abilities.
- CPA certification is a plus.
Experience with multi-entity accounting and partnering with FP&A teams is desirable.
