Accountabilities:

  • Lead and grow a high-performing finance team, currently including a Senior Accountant and external partners, with plans for additional hires.
  • Ensure financial integrity and compliance across US, UK, and Netherlands entities, maintaining rigorous standards in financial reporting and oversight.
  • Oversee accounting functions including reconciliations, general ledger management, monthly close, financial statements, and consolidations across multiple currencies.
  • Develop and implement budgeting and forecasting processes, financial models, and performance analyses to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to leadership, guiding resource allocation, long-term planning, and financial controls across departments.
  • Formalize and document accounting policies and procedures; lead systems integration, automation, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Track and manage donor-restricted funds, multi-currency grant flows, and endowments while ensuring donor reporting transparency.
  • Maintain oversight of internal controls and risk management frameworks to protect organizational assets and reputation.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of progressive finance experience, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • 3+ years in a finance leadership or people management role.
  • CPA designation or advanced degree in finance, accounting, or a related field (e.g., MBA).
  • Strong background in nonprofit or fund accounting, with familiarity in grant management and restricted funding compliance.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with complex datasets, financial modeling, and multi-entity consolidations.
  • Experience working across teams in high-growth, mission-driven organizations with an emphasis on financial controls and transparency.
  • Preferred familiarity with Sage Intacct, Salesforce, business intelligence tools, and international financial reporting.
  • Alignment with organizational values, a collaborative problem-solving style, and a passion for global health and development.

Benefits

  • Salary of $178,400 (all US locations) or $196,800 (New York City/San Francisco Bay Area).
  • Fully remote role within the United States, with optional relocation to offices in Oakland, CA, or Brooklyn, NY (expenses covered).
  • Four weeks of paid vacation annually and 16 weeks of fully paid parental leave.
  • Fully covered health, dental, vision, and life insurance for employees and dependents.
  • Ergonomic home office equipment or coworking space membership.
  • 403(b) retirement plan with employer support.
  • Travel to 3–4 in-person gatherings annually, including all-team visit weeks and department retreats.
  • Visa sponsorship and relocation support available on a case-by-case basis.
  • Flexible work hours and a collaborative, supportive work culture.
