As an IBM z/OS Systems Programmer, you'll take on a high-impact technical role focused on maintaining, upgrading, and optimizing complex mainframe systems. You will be instrumental in planning and executing installations, diagnosing system issues, and supporting enterprise-level software and hardware across mission-critical environments. This role demands deep expertise with IBM tools and protocols and offers the opportunity to directly influence operational efficiency and system performance within a secure federal context.

Accountabilities:

  • Plan, develop, and execute detailed implementation and installation strategies for IBM mainframe projects, including OS, hardware, and software upgrades.
  • Use IBM tools such as SMP/e, IEBGENER, IEBCOPY, and IDCAMS to configure datasets and system parameters.
  • Create comprehensive documentation for all installations and upgrades, including configuration details and step-by-step procedures.
  • Manage SMP/e installations, resolve issues through message interpretation, and define required parameters for system maintenance.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot system and user catalogs, USS file systems, mount points, and JES2 configurations.
  • Diagnose and resolve system abends and performance anomalies using system logs, traces, and job output analysis.
  • Administer mainframe communication tools (VTAM, TCP/IP, FTP) and storage management utilities (DFHSM, ADRDSSU, SMS).
  • Update and manage system parameters (PARMLIB) following internal standards.
  • Support batch processing workflows and ensure security and integration across standard IBM mainframe products.
  • Perform additional technical duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must possess one of the following IAT Level 1 certifications: A+ CE, CCNA Security, Network+ CE, or SSCP.
  • Active Secret security clearance is required.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with IBM z/OS mainframe systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of IBM mainframe utilities, SMP/e processes, catalog management, and UNIX System Services on z/OS.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting system and batch job issues using IBM diagnostic tools.
  • Ability to create structured technical documentation and follow government-mandated formats.
  • Skilled in storage management, JES2 configuration, and system communication protocols.
  • Detail-oriented, analytical, and capable of handling complex technical environments with minimal supervision.
