The Production Manager (Section Manager) Oversees and coordinates the activities of the production line, prepares schedules, resolves issues, and ensures adherence to safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • This is an operations supervisor position responsible for supervising assembly across 2nd shift. This leader will also be responsible for providing clarity and direction to off shift support teams to meet overall production goals.

  • Monitor and improve safety on the shop floor; eliminate any unsafe operations and ensure a safe and clean product environment

  • Determine processing needs to ensure fixtures, tooling and methods are provided to meet schedules and production requirements.

  • Daily tie-in with production management to designate workload, priorities and sequence for work assigned.

  • Ensures training and effective utilization of workforce

  • Determines overtime need & determines priorities when resources are insufficient

  • Evaluate performance of team members, provide coaching for performance development improvement, and conduct progressive disciplinary procedures as required

  • Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency. Works to improve processes, timeliness and reduce costs by eliminating non-value-added activities.

  • Ensures the quality of product produced and conformity to the standards of the Caterpillar Quality Management System & Built in Quality program while also ensuring that the requirements documented within manufacturing control plans, JIS & standard work are understood and adhered to

  • Ensure necessary parts and materials are ordered and distributed in a timely and efficient manner

  • Implement various corporate initiatives such as 5S, Lean Manufacturing, 6 Sigma, CQMS/ISO certification, etc.

  • Responsible for training and development of staff, attendance tracking, estimating personnel needs, assigning work, meeting completion dates, and ensuring consistent application of organizational needs.

Degree Requirement

  • 1-3 years of relevant work experience OR 1 year of relevant work experience WITH a college degree

Basic Qualifications

  • Must demonstrate good interpersonal skills, be able to communicate with others, work as a part of a team and have the ability to work with a diverse group of employees and customers’

  • Have a mechanical aptitude

  • Must be a self-starter and work with limited direction

  • Should possess effective motivational skills, a high degree of initiative and a strong customer focus

  • Previous leadership experience (i.e. military, company prior to Caterpillar, etc.)

  • Be proficient with Microsoft Office products

  • Be willing to work outside of normal work hours including overtime and alternative shifts

Top Candidates will also have:

  • Bachelors and/or Masters degree from an accredited college or university

  • Achieved a professional certification (ASQ, SME, etc.)

  • Experience working within an extended value stream methodology with cross departmental collaboration amongst operations, quality, manufacturing engineering, design engineering, supply chain & maintenance

  • Experience with 3500, 3600, and/or C175 Engines and component manufacturing or other assembly areas

  • Experience in a floater, team lead, certification coordinator, or supervisory role in machine shop operations, assembly operations, or operations quality

  • Consults on the use of new tools and techniques for safety protection.

  • Performs safety inspections to assure compliance with OSHA requirements.

  • Designs and implement emergency response processes and procedures.

Production Training: Knowledge of approaches, tools and techniques for delivering formal and informal training on the safe and efficient operation of production machinery; ability to conduct effective formal and situation-specific training.

  • Prepares lesson plans and materials for upcoming training sessions.

  • Documents the production process and write user manuals detailing production machinery operation.

  • Instruct staff in the basic set-up and operation of production machinery.

  • Schedules and execution training sessions for production employees.

  • Maintains records documenting employees' successful completion of production training programs

Summary Pay Range:

$79,800.00 - $119,760.00
