Research Scientist - Biopolymer Texturization

Science & Technology:

  • Lead Technology development from idea to Proof of Concept/Process, including design of new equipment/ingredient production.
  • Explore science-driven technological solutions in the field of biopolymers to bring competitive advantage.
  • Generate structure design routes for texturization of food biopolymers (proteins and polysaccharides)
  • Execute experimental research activities, analyze data, and test hypotheses.
  • Continuously build knowledge on the latest trends in Biopolymer science, with a focus on process-controlled structuring for rheology design and elucidating new ingredient physicochemical-textural functions.
  • Contribute to the design of new processes based on the generated biopolymer structuring/texturization routes.
  • Develop predictive, mathematical models for structure-rheology functions.
  • Contribute to patent drafting and scientific substantiation of patent claims.
  • Co-define Technology Transfer plans, ensure resources and anticipate needs.
  • Engage in fundamental research with academic partners to address key scientific challenges.
  • Develop and build strong relations with academia and Research Centres.
  • Contribute to scientific publications and presentations in top International Scientific Conferences.
  • Document knowledge about the latest methods and scientific advancements in the field.


Project & People Management:

  • Contribute to shaping S&T focus areas and project pipeline.
  • Define resources and equipment needs.
  • Coach and guide Food Tech Researchers and PhD / MS students.
  • Promote cross-fertilization of ideas and technologies between the different S&T Pillars.


Technical Assistance:

  • Provide subject matter expertise to the R&D Product Development team and other departments.
  • Active involvement in technology scaling up and implementation activities when needed.

Requirements

➔ Care about our mission and see it as a “personal” problem to be solved professionally.

➔ Scientist I: A Ph.D. in biopolymers (proteins, polysaccharides) with expertise in material science and physical techniques for texture generation.

➔ +7 years of postgraduate or industry (Technology or applied science research) experience.

➔ Research experience in polymer texturization technologies e.g. extrusion, shear cell, power heating, and spinning technologies.

➔ Knowledge and/or research experience in texture generation and relevant characterization techniques e.g. Rheology, Tribology, Texture Analysis.

➔ Knowledge and/or research experience in surface engineering design and relevant characterization techniques is a benefit e.g. Contact Angle Goniometry, Zeta Potential - surface charge.

➔ Train and coach technology researchers and students on relevant characterization techniques, if needed.

➔ Experience using predictive modeling tools (e.g. MatLab) for modeling process-microstructure and/or microstructure textural properties is a plus.

➔ A strong sense of science for application and interest in novel technologies.

➔ Fluency in English.
