About the Role
As a Site Reliability Engineer you will make an impact by shaping, scaling, and secure mission-critical platforms that power our enterprise applications. In this role, you will drive platform automation, strengthen observability and security frameworks, and ensure seamless reliability across large-scale production systems. Your work will directly impact business continuity, developer velocity, and customer experience by delivering infrastructure that is resilient, automated, and future-ready. You will be a valued member of the Cloud Infrastructure and Security team and work collaboratively with our Infrastructure Architect

In this role, you will

  • Lead the design, deployment, and management of Kubernetes-based platforms (EKS and/or OpenShift) for high availability and scalability.
  • Automate infrastructure and application delivery using modern IaC toolchains (Terraform, Ansible, Helm, ArgoCD, etc.).
  • Architect and secure middleware platforms (Kafka, Redis) for enterprise workloads.
  • Implement security and compliance controls across containers, CI/CD pipelines, and runtime environments.
  • Strengthen network security with Kubernetes NetworkPolicy and Calico to protect critical workloads.
  • Build and evolve observability practices with Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/Splunk, ensuring proactive detection and resolution of issues.
  • Partner with development teams to instrument distributed applications with metrics, logs, and tracing.
  • Drive incident response, root cause analysis, and postmortems to reduce downtime and strengthen resilience.
  • Mentor engineers and champion best practices in automation, scalability, and platform security.

Based on this role’s business requirements, this is an onsite position requiring 5 days a week in a client or Cognizant office in Jersey City, NJ.

What you need to have to be considered

  • 12+ years of overall industry experience, including 6+ years in SRE, DevOps, Platform, or Production Engineering roles.
  • Certified in Kubernetes or OpenShift administration (CKA, AWS CKA, or Red Hat OpenShift Administrator, or equivalent).
  • Deep hands-on expertise with Kubernetes internals, networking, Helm charts, and Operators.
  • Proven experience deploying and scaling Kafka and Redis clusters in production.
  • Strong proficiency with IaC and CI/CD tools (Terraform, Ansible, Helm, ArgoCD).
  • Advanced experience with observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/Splunk).
  • Skilled in programming/scripting (Python, Shell, Groovy or equivalent).

These will help you stand out

  • Track record of managing large-scale, highly available production systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to enforce container security and governance with tools like OPA/Gatekeeper, Kyverno, Trivy, Clair, or Snyk.

Salary and Other Compensation:

Applications will be accepted until September 15, 2025.

The annual salary for this position is between $91,000 - $107,000 depending on the experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program and stock awards, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
