Role Overview:

The 3D Mechanical Design Team Lead is responsible for managing and coordinating all mechanical design activities within CEL, ensuring efficient scheduling, high-quality 3D CAD output, and smooth collaboration with Project Management, Electrical Design, and Production teams to deliver accurate, efficient switchgear designs.

Responsibilities:

  • Schedule and track all assignments within the 3D Mechanical Design Team.
  • Report progress on mechanical design activities.
  • Work closely with the Electrical Design Team Lead and Project Managers to align design efforts with project priorities.
  • Liaise with Production to ensure a smooth handover of mechanical design outputs into manufacturing.
  • Ensure team members follow established 3D Mechanical Design Processes, CAD procedures, and use approved design templates.
  • Maintain high-quality mechanical documentation for all projects.
  • Conduct and oversee design reviews to ensure technical accuracy, compliance with standards, and readiness for production.
  • Contribute to project planning by providing technical input and team capacity insights.
  • Support onboarding and training of new team members as needed.
  • Create and manage 3D assemblies of electrical switchgear panels.
  • Develop accurate 3D models of sheet-metal and machined parts.
  • Produce detailed 2D manufacturing drawings, including tolerances and forming details.
  • Ensure designs follow company CAD standards and optimize for material usage and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Generate accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) for each project.
  • Use and maintain the reusable mechanical design/component library established by R&D.

Requirements

Education:

·        Third Level Mechanical Qualification or equivalent

·        CAD Training (preferably Autodesk Inventor)

·        Project Management qualification an advantage

 

Experience/Skills Required:

·        Experienced in Design of Electrical Switchgear

·        Excellent communication and leadership skills

·        Excellent good organisational and time-management skills

·        Excellent people skills

·        Excellent decision-making skills

·        Be highly focused in order to adhere to the objectives and goals of the company

·        Demonstrate excellent motivational skills to bring out the best in team members

·        Work well under pressure and be flexible with project challenges
